Qantas has extended its sale fare offer for Americans planning a trip Down Under.The Australian carrier is now offering the sale until March 31st as a result of high demand from U.S. travelers.Deals include one-way flights starting at just $299 from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Auckland.The discount airfare begins at $399 for New York flights to these destinations (with the exception of Auckland). Based on a roundtrip purchase, these cheap flights include taxes and surcharges and are valid for travel through October 24th.

Book by January 27: Qantas has unveiled discounts on three of its most popular Far East destinations.The airline, nicknamed the Flying Kangaroo, has reduced prices on its services from London Heathrow Airport to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok.Passengers wishing to benefit from the Hong Kong deal are required to travel between April 11 and June 21 2009, while those wishing to sample the delights of Singapore or Bangkok must depart between April 8 and June 15 2009.

The one world airline alliance has announced a series of relocations at London Heathrow Airport following British Airways’ completed Terminal 5 move.The Spanish airline Iberia will transfer its entire operation in the UK’s largest airport from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 from February 25, 2009, while Finnair will reassign its flights from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 on January 27.In addition, Qantas will move to Heathrow’s third terminal later in 2009, completing the entire relocation of oneworld airlines to the base.

British Airways and Qantas have been fined after admitting engaging in a price fixing alliance.An Australian federal court in Sydney imposed a punishment equating to £8.7 million to Qantas and £3.3 million to the UK’s flag carrier, after the two airlines admitted agreeing an illegal arrangement.This “understanding” specifically related to the fixing of prices on fuel surcharges for cargo between 2002 and 2006 – though both airlines have denied that this related to passenger routes.Yet, Graeme Samuel, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, believes that these agreements are an “unforeseen fraud on communities”.

In a recent statement, Qantas has confirmed its decision to commence flight services from Heathrow using its newly purchased Airbus A380 superjumbo. As per the announcement, flights would start on 17th January between Heathrow and Sydney via Singapore served by the giant plane, the third A380 purchased by the airline.Deploying the double-decker aircraft, Qantas will offer three return flights a week. Commenting on the launch, Stephen Thompson, the regional manager remarked, “For our customers travelling to both Singapore and beyond to Australia, the A380 means extra space and comfort in every class. Qantas offers an all-new suite in first class and a fully flat Sky-bed sleeper seat in business class. The aircraft features a 32 seat Premium Economy cabin and an all new Economy Class seat featuring a sliding base that moves with the seat back to create a more comfortable, ergonomically tested position to aid sleep.”
